Using Glauco
Resource detail: YAML, events, logs and terminal
Open a resource to read its YAML and events, follow logs, exec into a container or forward a port.
Open a resource
- Click the name in a table.
- Or click the ⋮ menu at the end of the row, then View details.
- Or right-click the row.
The detail view has tabs. Which tabs you see depends on the kind: Overview, Logs, Events, YAML, Ports and Terminal. Logs and Terminal are for pods and workloads. Ports is for pods, workloads and services. Click Back, or press ⌘[ on macOS, or Ctrl[ on Windows and Linux, to go back.
YAML
The YAML tab shows the live manifest, read-only. For a Secret, the values are hidden. Click Reveal to show them and Hide to hide them again. To change the YAML, see Edit, scale, restart and delete.
Events
The Events tab lists the events about this object, with Reason, Age, Count, From and Message.
Logs
The Logs tab shows the last 100 lines, then follows new lines live. It keeps up to 5,000 lines.
- For a workload, pick All pods or one pod. Open the More menu and turn on Pod name to see which pod wrote each line.
- For a pod with more than one container, pick All containers or one container.
- The More menu also has Wrap lines and Show timestamps.
- Pick a time in Since, such as Last 15 minutes, to load only the lines of that period instead of the last 100.
- Turn on Previous to read the logs of the container's last run. It is off when the container has not restarted.
- Turn on JSON to show JSON lines in a short form with colours for error, warn and debug. Click a line to unfold it.
- Click Download to save the lines you see to a
.logfile. - Click Clear to empty the view. New lines still come in.
- If you scroll up, click Scroll to now to go back to the newest line.
To search the logs:
- Press ⌘F on macOS, or CtrlF on Windows and Linux.
- Type in Find in logs. Click .* to use a regular expression.
- Press Enter for the next match and ShiftEnter for the previous one.
- Turn on Filter to show only the lines that match.
- Press Esc to close the search.
Glauco does not show the logs of a previous, crashed container.
Terminal (exec)
- Open the Terminal tab.
- For a workload, pick a pod in Pod. Glauco picks one with a running container first.
- If the pod has more than one container, pick one in Container.
The terminal runs /bin/sh in the container. A container without /bin/sh, such as a distroless image, cannot open a terminal.
Ports (port-forward)
- Open the Ports tab.
- Find the port. Local port starts as the same number as the remote port.
- Change the local port if you want, from 1 to 65535.
- Click Start, or press Enter in the field.
The port then shows Forwarding to 127.0.0.1:8080, with your local port. Under Active forwards:
- Open in browser opens the address. It shows for web ports only.
- Copy address copies it.
- Stop ends the forward.
For a workload or a service, the forward goes to one of its pods. The tab names it in Forwards go to pod. If the local port is in use and you did not change it, Glauco picks a free port. If you typed a port that is in use, Glauco says Port 8080 is in use on this computer. Pick another one.
While forwards run, a button at the bottom of the sidebar counts them, for example 2 port-forwards. Click it to see and stop them all. Forwards stop when you switch context.
